Football has been around for centuries,England are thought to have invented the game, while others would say it started in China, but i am not writing this to argue the point of who did and who did not,i am mulling over why people choose a team, and go through their life, whether it be with an attitude of total support where it takes over their lives or just a fan that looks for the result after the games been played.
I suppose i should start by nailing my colours to the wall,i was lucky to have been brought up in England, where football has been the number one sport for many many years, i should consider myself fortunate because football was turned into the major sport is is today by people with foresight, these people organised events they started leagues and of course they made the rules.
I picked my team as a very young boy why, i don't really know why, one day i was out playing, in those days you played in the streets, put your jumpers at either end to make the goals and started playing others would come along and eventually join in,but as i was saying one day a mate of mine had a book or a card i can't remember now and on the card was pictures of all the top teams in what was called the first division, the pictures was of the club badges, we picked the badge we liked, mine of course was the cannon of The Mighty Arsenal, while my friend picked out Sheffield Wednesday why, i haven't a clue, and that was the reason and that has stuck with me all these years, and i must admit i never regretted it.
As years went passed and we took more interest in the teams we had picked, i started to realise that others had picked their teams by different ways some picked there team by performance,ie by the team that was winning, others by the sound of a clubs name others by colour, whichever method was used, it would mean that you stayed with your selection for ever, only certain people changed, the ones who's teams never got success.
My Father who for some reason supported Tottenham, but he was born in Tottenham, probably the reason, was dismayed that i chose different, and the dispute of who's club was the best, raged on for many years, only ending with his death, but that's another story,i would however like to know how some of you came to your decision and hopefully you made the right one.
